Alleluia, Alleluia, Hearts to heaven and voices raise;
Sing to God a hymn of gladness, sing to God a hymn of praise;
He who on the cross a victim for the world’s salvation bled,
Jesus Christ, the King of glory, now is risen from the dead.
Christ is risen, Christ the first-fruits of the holy harvest field,
Which with all its full abundance at his second coming yield;
Then the golden ears of harvest will their heads before him wave,
Ripened by his glorious sunshine from the furrows of the grave.
Christ is risen, we are risen; shed upon us heavenly grace,
Rain, and dew, and gleams of glory from the brightness of Thy face;
That we, with our hearts in heaven here on earth may fruitful be,
And by angel-hands be gathered, and be ever, Lord, with Thee.
Alleluia, Alleluia, glory be to God on high;
Alleluia to the Saviour, who has gained the victory;
Alleluia to the Spirit, fount of love and sanctity;
Alleluia, Alleluia, to the Triune Majesty.
Allelulua! Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed. Alleluia!
Let us pray:
The Collect for the Fifth Sunday of Easter
Almighty God,
who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ
have overcome death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life:
grant that, as by your grace going before us you put into our minds good desires,
so by your continual help
we may bring them to good effect;
through Jesus Christ our risen Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen

Talk
by Revd Nicholas Calver
The anthem
‘I give to you a new commandment’
(text from John 13 v34 and from an early western church hymn; music by Peter Nardone, b 1965)
Recorded by the joint benefice choir at St John the Baptist, Outwood on Advent Sunday, 2 December 2018
I give to you a new commandment,
a new commandment I give to you,
that you love one another as I have loved you.
Ubi caritas est vera, Deus ibi est.
congregavit nos in unum Christi amor.
exultemus et in ipso iucundemur.
timeamus et ameamus Deum vivum.
et ex corde diligamus nos sincero.
Where true love is, there is God.
Christ’s love has gathered us into one.
Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him.
Let us fear and let us love the living God.
And may we love each other with a sincere heart.
The Prayers
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
Blessing
O praise ye the Lord! Praise him in the height;
Rejoice in his word, ye angels of light;
Ye heavens adore him by whom ye were made
And worship before him, in brightness arrayed.
O praise ye the Lord! Praise him upon earth,
In tuneful accord, all you of new birth;
Praise him who has brought you his grace from above,
Praise him who has taught you to sing of his love.
O praise ye the Lord! All things that give sound;
Each jubilant chord, re-echo around;
Loud organs his glory forth tell in deep tone,
And sweet harp, the story of what he has done.
O praise ye the Lord! Thanksgiving and song
To him be outpoured all ages along:
For love in creation, for heaven restored,
For grace of salvation, O praise ye the Lord!
