There will be a joint Windmill United Benefice service of Holy Communion to celebrate Lammastide at 5.30pm on Sunday 31 July at Hookhouse Farm, Outwood RH1 5PW on the field if fine (seating on hay bales) or in the barn. This will be preceded by tea from 4pm (bring your own picnic and drinks).
Lammas or ‘Loaf-mass’ (derived from the Anglo-Saxon Hlafmaesse) is an English feast
in origin, held on 1 August as a thanksgiving for the first-fruits of the wheat harvest.
Traditionally, a newly baked loaf from the wheat harvest is presented before God
within the mass of that day.
There will be no morning services at the benefice churches today.
